The History of Jack’s Boot Shop

It all began in 1963, with our founder Jack Logue. Being a native of Sligo, Pennsylvania he was always interested in moving closer to where he grew up after serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Living in Chicago, Illinois after the war and dealing with the city life only strengthened his desire to return to Pennsylvania.  When the opportunity presented itself to purchase a small business in a rural town closer to his hometown of Sligo, he made the move and purchased Harry Morrison’s hardware store.  At the time, there were two other hardware stores in this tiny town of around 200 people. Harry Morrison’s store had carried an assortment of clothing and footwear in addition to the hardware and lumber he was mostly known for.  It didn’t take long for Jack to make the obvious transition from a hardware store to a clothing and footwear store as there were fewer of those in the area at that time. Thus, the store became Jack’s Clothing. Jack’s was a one man show until his son, Steve, joined him in 1987 after serving 8 years in the United States Air Force.

Following Jack’s passing on March 12th, 1990, Steve’s mother Theresia took control of the store. Theresia had no desire to run it so she made her son a deal which would involve something neither Steve nor his Mother realized at the time. Theresia only had eight more years to live and passed away on March 18th, 1998. The payment Steve and his Mother negotiated turned out to be a lifetime payment.  Some of the loyal customers who knew Jack have seen the numerous renovations, expansions, and location changes over the past thirty years. When Steve took the place over in March 1990, he had a slightly different vision for the 1100 sq ft of floor space that consisted of three 8 foot light fixtures. Jack’s Clothing became Jack’s Boot Shop and Steve went on to expand the store three different times at the Main Street, Corsica location.

Nowadays, you’ll find Jack’s Boot Shop just off the ticket strip in Brookville, Pennsylvania. Steve purchased the old Plyler’s Family Restaurant in Brookville in 2008 and began converting the well-loved old diner into new retail space. Expanding the footprint to over 8,000 sq ft, Jack’s has moved from its humble beginnings to its current home. This year has been spent giving the building a facelift, adding new stone exterior, refinishing the parking lot, and adding a digital billboard.
